December 2017

What a lovely busy and bustling afternoon.
‘Show and Tell’ had a variety of pieces to show. Some colourful crotched creatures will be putting smiles on some young faces this Xmas; a sewing roll inspired by one of last month’s items; a pyrographed notebook; some knitted macaroon ‘biscuits’ which looked good enough to eat; some vintage patchwork stars and a work in progress showing the complexities of English piecing; two amazing tableaux of needle-felted farmyard scenes – wow!
There were a number of individual projects going on which were interesting to see, especially the decorations for a tree at the Caynham Christmas Tree festival in December. Cushion linings were being run up on the sewing machine.
The workshop was a 5 point patchwork Xmas star and amazingly some were completed within the afternoon and looked lovely. Patchwork can be a bit fiddly, especially if using small pieces of fabric. Some were hand-stitched and some were put together using a sewing machine. All were slightly pad-ded using quilter’s wadding. Those destined for the Xmas tree were embellished with a button and ribbon hanging loop, whilst those to be used as coasters were unembellished apart from some hand-quilting.
The optional workshop at our next meeting offers the opportunity to needle-felt a simple little Santa. But, of course, you can bring any craft project you are working on. There will be a sewing machine available if you need one.
Everyone is welcome
Next meeting: Mon 11th December (2nd Mon) 2-4pm Ashford Carbonel village hall
