Caynham Ashford WI November 2017

After our President Chris welcomed members we started our meeting with a stirring rendition of Jerusalem. The normal business was dealt with quite speedily as it was also our November AGM. Sue Marsh, President of Bitterley WI, and our delegate at the NFWI Annual Meeting in Liverpool, came to our meeting and kindly gave her report on the proceedings. One of the resolutions passed was ‘Plastic Soup’ which is a campaign to keep micro plastic fibres out of our oceans. Our institute is really backing this campaign having sent for the Action Pack to enable us to discuss the subject in further detail at one of our meetings next year. Janice Forsyth mentioned and encouraged us all to attend the local meeting of NHS ‘Future Fit’, which has been set up to discuss meeting health needs for everyone living and working in Telford/ Wrekin, and Shropshire. Speaking on the same theme Marina Clent couldn’t emphasise enough the importance of everyone to support the meeting and events run by the League of Friends concerning the threatened closure of Ludlow Hospital. Both these issues are of the greatest importance to us all and we need to get behind the campaigns. On a lighter note a few ideas have been suggested for next year’s outing and I’m confident Sue and Ann will organise a great day out for us. The Group Christmas Trip this year is to Stratford and for those who choose not to shop there is plenty for them to do, I cannot recommend highly enough a visit to Hobsons for a delicious afternoon tea. Chris King reminded us of the Christmas Tree Festival in St Mary’s Church, Caynham. On 2nd December it is the festival during the day and a choral concert in the evening and on Sunday 3rd, the festival from 10am and the Christingle Service at 3pm. Our Christmas Meal this year will be lunch at The Cliffe. We are all looking forward to it as we had such a great time last year…..not forgetting the obligatory crackers and paper hats! We then proceeded with our AGM. All 2016 appropriate reports were proposed, seconded and adopted. Jenny Daniel was co-opted onto the committee and Chris King was re-elected by a majority vote and will remain President for 2018. On behalf of the members Betty Meredith thanked Chris and all the committee members for all their hard work throughout the year. To finish the evening we held a raffle with many lovely prizes. Jo Hall had obviously been very busy selling the tickets and I think everybody went home a winner. We are always looking for new members to join us and you can be assured of a friendly welcome. SMW
