After our president Chris welcomed us all and dealt with the business of the evening, she welcomed our speaker Richard Edwards, who spoke about Women in Parliament. Richard works for Parliamentary Outreach which is a service that raises the awareness of the work, processes and relevance of the institution of Parliament, with the aim of increasing levels of engagement between the public and the House of Commons and the House of Lords. It really was an interesting and informative presentation. He answered lots of our questions and enlightened us on many points including the difference between a Suffragette and a Suffragist. The competition of the evening was ‘A posy for a Suffragette’ which was won by Janice Forsyth. Apart from the Walking Group starting their evening walk this month, they have various outings organised joining with other WI groups. The cinema goers have viewings planned, the ‘ladies that lunch’ are never stuck for new venues to try and the Craft Group are always busy with various projects. They have just finished making and distributing 27 Twiddlemuffs to various, very grateful, local care homes and hospital dementia units. Ann Blake from the Art Group has painted the most beautiful watercolour birthday card of scenic Ludlow, to be sent to Her Majesty from Caynham Ashford WI, on the occasion of her 90th birthday. There is always something going on at Caynham Ashford WI, so why not come along and join our friendly and relaxed evenings. Our next meeting is at Caynham on 11th May when Pam and David Pittwood will give us a talk on ‘Garden Open!’ There will also be a plant stall. SMW
