Remembrance Sunday
Our service on Remembrance Sunday took a different form from previous years. Instead of including a short act of remembrance in the normal service of Holy Communion, this year’s service followed the customary form as used at the Cenotaph and throughout the country, but with traditional hymns and lessons from the bible appropriate for the occasion. The names from our war memorial (which is inside the church) were read out and at 11am we tuned into Radio 4 for the two minute silence, followed by the Last Post from the Cenotaph.
It was felt that this was a good innovation, and that in future years we should encourage more people from the parish who might not attend a traditional Church of England service to join us for what is a national, as much as a religious, commemoration.
As usual, the collection was taken for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and raised the sum of £127.50, including Gift Aid.
Fund-raising
As she did last year, Ann Lansdell ran a Tombola stall at the Ashford Carbonell ‘Not Even Nearly Christmas’ Coffee Morning in the village hall on 7th November, at which she raised £80 to be shared equally between the two churches.
Christmas at St. Andrew’s
Christmas services at St. Andrew’s will be as follows:
Holy Communion on Christmas Day will be at the usual time of 11.15 and then, also as usual, our Carol Service will be on the following Sunday (27th December) at 3pm (replacing Holy Communion on that day). We hope that many of you will be able to join us for this last carol-singing opportunity of 2015.
