News from St. Andrew’s, Ashford Bowdler August 19

The weather was kinder for our second Village Barbecue on Saturday, 3rd August, than it was last year. This time the sun shone and, although we did have a short shower, the party was by then in full swing and hardly anyone noticed! Again, there was a great turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy Roger Brooking’s delicious steaks, wild boar burgers and venison sausages, skilfully cooked by Keith Hodnett, Ron Wheeler and Roger himself, with delicious salads and desserts provided by various helpers. We also enjoyed lovely singing and keyboard music by Sheena Wieckowicz, to whom we are very grateful. Rupert and Alison Coggon did a great job printing and selling the tickets, as well as running the drinks stall from their Airstream caravan and generally organising the event. A huge vote of thanks goes to them in particular and to everyone else who helped and supported us on the day. The evening raised the splendid sum of £635, net of expenses, for church funds.
This years ‘Ride and Stride’, the Shropshire Historic Churches Trust sponsored cycling and walking event, will be on Saturday 14th September. Following her recent operation, Susannah Hall will not be riding this year and at the moment we have no volunteer riders or walkers taking part for St. Andrew’s church. If you, or anyone you know, would be willing to ride or walk for us, please let Jeremy Lansdell know on 831268 and he will provide the necessary sponsorship form. As usual, all money raised will be divided equally between the Trust and our fabric fund.
Our Harvest Festival evensong this year will be on Sunday 13th October, starting at 6.30pm. The collection will, as usual, go to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution and the service will be followed by refreshments at Church House, to which everyone will be very welcome.

Reminder to PCC members: The next PCC meeting is on Monday, 9th September, at 7.30pm at Church House
