What an interesting afternoon our November meeting was, with lots of different pieces of work being shared. Our regular ‘Show and Tell’, gave an opportunity to see work undertaken by members on craft courses. This included a beautiful mosaic plate made at the W.I.’s Denman College and some foiled glasswork with a Xmas theme, including a rather wonderful angel made at Westhope College. Also with a Xmas theme were some lovely cross-stitched cards.
Some large squares had been knitted to add to the collection started last month for blankets for the Dog Rescue charity. These are now being stitched together and ‘filler’ pieces made to ensure different sized squares can be made into blankets. The project will be ongoing as there will always be a need for blankets for rescue dogs. Cotton drawstring bags had been made to hold teddies tor ‘Teddies for Tragedies’.
There was an opportunity this month to make a holder for a handbag pack of tissues or a cover for a box of tissues. Some lovely examples were brought of pieced and quilted tissue box covers. Also ideas for stitched felt decorations.
Other work included some fine tapestry work, knitting and embroidery with a lovely example of blanket stitching around simple felt decorations.
Our two sewing machines were on hand for members to use with their own sewing projects and 2 members were preparing for winter by making draft excluders. There are still lots of teddies that need drawstring bags so this will be ongoing work and a chance to practice using the sewing machines.
Next month will no doubt see a variety of work being undertaken by members working on their own projects and there will be a workshop on making a fun, scrappy fabric Xmas wreath. Bring along a pair of scissors, a wire coat hanger or ring off an old lampshade and any scraps of fabric in Xmas colours. Don’t worry if you cannot provide any of these as I will have materials to hand.

The next meeting is on Monday 15th December at 2pm. There will be no meeting in January or February due to work on the village hall. Hopefully we will restart on the 16th March, (3rd Monday) once work is completed.
