We had a full and busy June meeting as there was a lot to report and numerous of our members had attend-ed various meetings. At the beginning of June, our member, Sheila Bennett, attended the WI Garden Party at Buckingham Palace hosted by the Duchess of Cornwall. Although the day could have been a bit warmer the grounds were full of WI ladies wearing their Summer finery, which created a beautiful colourful display. A delicate afternoon tea was served including the oblig-atory cucumber sandwiches. Sheila said that it had been a very enjoyable and memorable day. The streaming in Ashford village hall of the Centenary Annual Meeting at the Royal Albert Hall was a huge success, there were one or two minor technical hitches but it really was quite an achievement. The ladies who organised the cater-ing and the technical team worked really hard to make the day run smoothly even to the point of Sheila Bennett baking the cake from the new WI centenary cookbook using the same recipe that those members attending the Royal Albert Hall were served…….it was delicious. Our delegate, president Jenny Daniel, reported on the proceedings from the Royal Al-bert Hall where the Queen, Princess Royal and the Countess of Wessex were in attendance. The atmosphere was fantastic and when the organist played Jerusalem and 5000 members proudly sang their hearts out it was a very emotional experi-ence. Jenny said that it was a wonderful occasion, a day to remember, and in the future, should any member have the op-portunity to attend such an occasion she would highly recommend it. Our speakers for the evening were Heather and Linton Waters on Mental Gymnastics. When we were all given work sheets and
pencils you could see the look of sheer panic on some of our members faces. We need not have worried one bit. Alt-hough the
majority of us were taught maths a long time ago and have always stuck to the same method of working out, Linton ex-plained there are various ways to address and calculate maths, not difficult but different, he just made us think a bit. It really was an enjoyable talk and we all went home with full marks! Our next meeting will be in Caynham on Wednesday 8th July and the subject is ’50 Shades of Green’. Everybody is welcome.
