February 2018

Our February session started with some people sharing what they had been up to craftwise since our last meeting. A photo of the lovely knitted jacket which had now been completed was passed around. The actual garment was already being much worn and loved by its proud owner! A beautiful, colourful piece of needlefelting had been completed and embellished with fine beads. Its owner now has the difficult decision of how to use it. Maybe framed and displayed or maybe incorporated into a garment openly or secretly. Whichever way it is sure to give much pleasure. Paper roses adorned chiffon rib-bon and books and looked glorious. One member is busy trialling ideas for use at her daughter’s wedding later in the year. We’ll be keeping an eye on this, hoping for a workshop! Poppies were much in evidence as some people had responded to the plea for help in making textile poppies and knitted i-cords for the curtain of remembrance which is being constructed in readiness for the Wonderwool Wales event at Builth Wells at the end of April this year.
The workshop on making a small leather ‘Penny purse’ proved very popular. New skills were taken on board with the use of leather making tools and equipment. Some purses were hand stitched with beeswaxed linen thread whilst others had fine thonging sewn through holes created with a leather punch.
By the end of the afternoon some lovely purses had taken shape.
Next month there will be an optional workshop on the Japanese craft of Sashiko stitching. Please bring a small sewing kit if you have one.
Next meeting: Monday 19 March 2 – 4pm at Ashford Carbonel village hall.
Everyone welcome.
