I think we all must have crossed our fingers for good weather for our August day out as we couldn’t have wished for a more beautiful day for our Llangollen trip. With a bus full of members, husbands and friends we left Ashford and took the scenic route to the Moreton Park Garden Centre in Chirk. There we had a couple of hours to look round the plants and shops before having lunch. Then onto Llangollen Canal for a two hour round trip to the Horseshoe Falls on a horsedrawn passenger boat. On our return to Llangollen Wharf we enjoyed a cream tea. What a fantastic day we had and a big ‘Thank You’ to Sue and Ann for organising it.
Continuing our Centenary celebrations an ‘Open WI Weekend’ is being held at Caynham Church on the 12th and 13th September in conjunction with WI Day, 16th September. This is being organised by the Ludlow South Group and several group members will have their own display areas showing interesting memorabilia, crafts, photographs and lots of information to do with the numerous activities that each institute promotes. There’ll be tea and cakes served and it is hoped that there will be lots of visitors, existing WI members plus family and friends. It will be open from 11am – 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday and everybody will be made most welcome to meet friends and make friends.
In conjunction with the centenary celebrations, on the 16th September, the actual centenary day, some of our members will be travelling by rail from Ludlow to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in Anglesey to visit the museum which was the first meeting house of the WI. I’m sure it will be a great day out and possibly, at our next meeting, we could ask those members who went to pronounce Llanfair PG in full……… hopefully not with a mouthful of cake!!!!!!!
