Ashford Carbonell Celebration for the Queen’s 90th Birthday

IMG_0349How wonderfully lucky and blessed we are in Ashford Carbonell.
Saturday 11th June brought the most perfect weather and large turn out of Village people to celebrate our Queen’s 90th Birthday. What fun it was.
The field and hall were set up to welcome everybody of all ages, inviting them to enjoy themselves and that is exactly what we all did.
Delicious homemade cakes with tea flowed, ice cream cones were demolished and the bar was well supported. There were games for young and old including Bowls, a cleverly designed Splat the Rat, a popular Ball Through the Wall, and a Raffle. Families joined in playing Rounders, followed by the Egg and Spoon races for all ages - everyone was a winner with chocolate handed out to all. Cakes and crowns were made and judged and the Dolly’s birthday was revealed.
DSCN1779Thank you to Ishbel and her team of organisers representing the church, school and village hall, along with Carol for her inspiration in sparking the idea and all those who worked so hard setting up and clearing away, pouring teas and running stalls, displays, competitions and taking part. It gave us all so many very happy moments.
The highlight was the Maypole dance performed superbly by the school children with coaching from Janie and Hannah. They did a wonderful job of dancing with ribbons, weaving 3 complex patterns and then reversing the process.
The event was not seen as a major fund raising activity but proceeds of £382 have been divided between the village hall, school and church.
What a happy day. Congratulations to everyone who came, took part, helped and enjoyed it. Who said village life was dead? Now …. What’s next?!
