The Village Hall AGM was held on 23rd May and, disappointingly, with a relatively low number of villagers present. A very big thank you to Lynda Tilt, Shirley White, Chris Hewetson and Deborah Reader who have served on the Committee during the last year (and for many previous years) but have decided to stand down. Ten of last year’s committee were re-elected and there should be 3 nominated members to come, one each from the Parish Council, PCC and WI. This will leave two vacancies – please contact Matthew Brundrett on 831342 if you are interested in joining the Committee.
Representatives from the Village Hall, Parish Council and Sports Field sub-group have been working together to try and secure the continued use of the northern half of the Sports Field but progress is slow, despite a lot of work being done by the sub-group.
For those partial to a bit of tennis, the moss on the Village court has been sprayed, the court swept, the lines repainted and a new net hung, so we are all set for Wimbledon! Recent events have included a Curry Night at the end of May and a somewhat chaotic archive film screening on British Railways. The intended (hired) film refused to co-operate but Dave Froggatt just happened to have an archive railways film on his person (you never know when one might come in useful) which saved the evening. And very enjoyable it was, too. The response to the two archive films that we have shown over the last two months has been very encouraging (and even enthusiastic!) so we will devise a series for the winter months and aim to publish the programme of films and dates in the September magazine.
Upcoming events for the Hall during July & August include the Village Barbeque on 12th August and the Yellowleys’ Garden Open on 27th August; plus the regular bar openings, Wednesday morning coffee and alternate Thursday teas. And finally, a particular thank you to Steve and Denise for doing such a wonderful job looking after the flower boxes outside the Hall.
