September 2019 –

Glynnis welcomed us to the July meeting and started by telling us that unfortunately our evening speaker from the Ludlow Farm Shop had cancelled at very short notice. As the theme of the evening was to have been food, and so as not to disappoint us, Cath and Glynnis had very kindly set to baking scones so that at the end of our business we all enjoyed a delicious supper of home made scones jam and cream followed by strawberries and cream. Thank you ladies they were delicious. Some of our members took up the kind invitation from Knowbury WI and attended their Skittles Evening. They joined in the merriment and formed a team and after a very enjoyable evening came away with a prize……the booby. What have we all told our children, it isn’t the winning, it’s the taking part. Congratulations ladies you did very well. Great anticipation at the Burwarton Show as our ladies waited patiently to re-enter the competition tent to discover how their entry had fared. Much to their delight, next to their entry ‘100 Years of the Forestry Commission’ was the red ticket, first prize and winner of The Perpetual Shield. Their entry consisted of five elements: two cookery, venison pie – Ann Tyler,
tree stump cake – Glynnis Steven two craft, wall-hanging – Janice Forsyth,
stained glass owl – Ann Hughes, and floral display – Chris King. Congratulations ladies and thank you for all the time and effort put into all your exhibits, you certainly did Caynham Ashford WI proud…again. Our next meeting is in Ashford on 11th Sept and Ailie Hill, who started Pricklebums, will give us a talk on hedgehogs. Sandra Warner
