At its meeting on 17th May the new PCC decided to make certain changes to our regular pattern of services in the future.
In June there will be no service of Holy Communion on Sunday the 26th. Instead, parishioners are strongly encouraged to attend the mid-summer service of Evensong that day at Richard’s Castle old church (St. Bartholomew’s), starting at 6pm. Since parking there is limited, sharing of cars is also encouraged!
From a date still to be decided (but not before August), the regular monthly pattern of services will be:
First Sunday – Matins
Second Sunday – no service
Third Sunday – Holy Communion
Fourth Sunday – Evensong
In other words, there will only be one service of Holy Communion each month. It is possible that this may be changed to the second Sunday, but final details will be announced in due course.

The PCC and congregation of St. Andrew’s are delighted that Kelvin and Ruth have decided to stay in the Ashfords group. They and their family have become a very special part of our community.
“WHAT DOEST THOU HERE?”
Over a century ago the Reverend Timothy Watton, Vicar of Richards Castle and also at that time looking after Ashford Bowdler, preached on Sunday afternoon on the text from 1 Kings Chapter 19 “Elijah, fear-ing the wrath of King Ahab had fled into the wilderness and hid in a cave. Through his fears and isola-tion he comes to realise where his duty lies, not in hiding, but in another country.”
In this day and age, more and more people are continually on the move, for many reasons. Some because of demands of work, or family, or illness or just because of the desire to find a new home in fresh surroundings.
One wonders why they come to the Ashfords – in little Bowdler, the total population is less and forty. Although one was born in the house in which she has lived for over ninety years, others have come from London, Worcester, Scotland, South Africa and Australia and already clocking up an unusual number of years.
What a tale any of them could tell if only they would. Were things uncomfortable where they came from? Why should they choose South Shropshire?
