Who said bowls is a sport for the elderly?
The “Bowling for the Pig” competition, organised by the Club as part of the Queen’s Birthday Celebration, attracted far more children than adults, despite the enormous prize of £10 in a pink plastic piggy bank. This valuable trophy was won by 13 years old Georgina Curtis, with a bowl 2 inches from the jack. Georgina and twin sister Libby have both been members of the Club for the past few weeks.
Many thanks to George Griffiths for painting the benches by the green and for helping to run the competition, which made a profit of £21, £16 going to the Village Hall funds and £5 to the Bowls Club.
The Wednesday evening bowling sessions now have 8 regular participants, who are improving rapidly, so much so, that talent spotters from other clubs, often disguised as fruit pickers or tennis players, have been seen making furtive observations.
It can only be a matter of time before the Club coffers are enhanced by some sizeable transfer fees.
