June 2017

Phew! What a lovely hot summer’s day today was. Too hot to be out and about maybe, but just right for
sitting in the cool of the village hall and being creative.
The show and tell session saw a stunning quilt which had been 2 years in the making, but well worth
the effort. The large flower patterns had been stitched from liberty fabric and were linked with hand stitched
vines – lovely. A curved felted necklace and matching drop earrings were also shown. These had been made
from wet felting. A technique which will be covered in next year’s workshop programme.
Today’s workshop gave an introduction to needle felting. A technique using dry wool fibres and sharp,
barbed felting needles. Concentration was needed to ensure the felting technique was undertaken safely.
Sarah Ryan, a needle felter who runs short courses locally was at hand to guide and encourage us through
the process. To everyone’s delight, small decorative balls were produced which became hangings or key
The group will now be taking its summer break. There will be no meeting during July, August or September.
We will restart on the 3rd Monday in October.
Next meeting: Monday 16 October 2 – 4pm at Ashford Carbonel village hall.
Everyone will be most welcome.
