December 2018

What a lovely variety of makes were shown at our ‘Show & Tell’ session. A beautiful pouffe made from sun-ray sections of assorted blue fabrics was amazing; unique greeting cards embellished with quilling; a knitted teddy bear; a toddlers jumper knitted with some clever decorative yarns giving a fairisle look; a small handmade album/notebook and two colourful tapestry Xmas stocking fronts. Most of the items had been made to be given as Christmas gifts to family and friends – lucky people!
Some interesting projects were underway. A much loved jacket was having its worn out lining replaced. This is a challenging undertaking but using the old lining as a pattern, the jacket will soon have a new lease of life as well as a wow factor brought by the rich colour of the new lining. Colourful linen tea towels were being made into useful tote bags. The sewing machine was also in use for finishing off a small ‘tidy’ bag. Some members were trying their hands at the art of quilling whilst others were chatting away with their knitting, making an assortment of items; a cotton potholder, a cardigan and some Xmas tree decorations. The decorations have to be adjusted as the printed pattern was wrong! Suggestions from the group gave a way forward so hopefully it will all work out and the pattern will be amended.
Help is at hand to guide you through any project. There is a file with ideas for charity makes for knitters and stitchers who would like to make something but who do not have their own projects.
Next meeting: Monday 17 December 2–4pm at Ashford Carbonel village hall.
