Archive Film Nights will be on the third Friday of each month during the winter season and will alternate between a documentary based ‘archive’ and a vintage film. The next showing on Friday 18th October will be “The Homecoming”, a documentary about the return of Alderney’s inhabitants in 1945 following their evacuation in 1939. Alderney is the most northerly and third largest of the Channel Islands. It was the only island to be completely evacuated before occupation by the Nazis for the duration of the war. During the occupation this tiny island bore witness to terror, destruction and the presence of around four thousand prisoners of war. The returning islanders were faced with hardship and horror but their determination won through. This is their story.
