CAR BOOT SALE IN AID OF ASHFORD CARBONEL VILLAGE HALL SEPTEMBER 9th 2012
On a beautiful early autumn morning the Car Boot Boss ( Janie ) and her team of helpers gathered in the playing fields to organise the stalls before the hordes descended for start of the Car Boot Sale. There was a Bric-a-Brac stall, A Second-hand Book Stall, a Local Produce stall and David in his co-ordinated tee-shirt and pinny doing a brisk trade in hot dogs and beefburgers. In the kitchen a bevy of tealadies led by Ishbel and Linda, provided teas and coffees. Later, Peter behind the bar did a roaring trade as the sun warmed everyone up.
The children made good use of the children’s play area, leaving their parents free to sample the delights of the forty eight car booters stalls selling everything from a “gazunder” to the bed for it to go under, from an Aspidistrato a child’s bike, and they all did a roaring trade.
By 1.30pm a great deal of stuff had changed hands and most people had gone home with their purchases, leaving the loyal band of helpers to clear away and by 3.15pm, the only signs a Car Boot Sale had been there were the numerous car tracks across the playing fields. Oh yes, and the bric-a-brac and books left over.
Before the day. Very generous donations of goods were collected from the Parish on the Friday night and further donations arrived throughout Saturday to be sorted and displayed on tables ready for the Sunday sale. Volunteers, so essential to all our events, were ready and willing to help on each day.
As a result a resounding success with a total of £1310-91 raised on the day. A big thank you from our main organiser, Janey Jones and the Village Hall Committee.
But watch this space! We still have to go to another car boot - Leominster on a Sunday at 7am in October! - to try and clear some of the remaining donated goods not sold on the day. It is surprising what goes at another venue! Last year a further amount was added to the total raised and we hope to succeed in doing the same again.
