Bishop Hooper is a new school that opened in September 2009, following the amalgamation of Ashford Carbonell Primary School and Caynham Primary School. The school site is now a purpose built, state of the art facility at the edge of Ashford Carbonell village. The building has recently won several awards including ‘Best Education Building’, ‘Best Innovative/Sustainable Building’ and was the overall winner of the ‘Building Excellence’ Awards Ceremony. Parents and carers send their children to Bishop Hooper from, not only the local villages, but also the surrounding area.
We pride ourselves on our caring ethos and excellent academic achievement. We have an open door policy and warmly welcome visits at any time during the school year from prospective parents. An appointment can be made by contacting the school office.
The school is set in a pleasant rural environment just three miles from Ludlow on a site with stunning views of local countryside.
The main school building comprises 4 large, light classrooms, two large additional open, shared teaching areas and a large hall, a Food Technology Room, a modern and relaxed library area, the School Office, Heads Teacher’s office and Staffroom. Reception pupils have their own purpose built toilets, cloakroom and playground which is accessed directly from the classroom. In addition, our local Pre-school ‘Butterflies’ are housed in our school building with their own purpose-built play space, toilets,
cloakroom, office and playground.
Outside there is a hard surfaced playground, extensive pathways which the children can also use, and a large Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) for ball games. There is a covered veranda which stretches the length of the school for quiet games and activities and many picnic benches and seats for social times. There is a large playing field, a football pitch, a grassed amphitheatre and raised growing beds where our pupils grow fruit and vegetables. The whole school site is secure and surrounded by mature hedges, trees and safety fencing.
