News from St. Andrew’s, Ashford Bowdler – Oct

The first ever (we believe) coffee morning to be held in St. Andrew’s church took place on Saturday, 8th September. Despite the rain, it was judged to be a successful experiment which we will probably repeat in the future. Rupert and Alison Coggon had bought a tea urn for church use and, since the church has no water supply, they also carried 20 litres of water from their home to fill it! Jean Allen and Anne Sinclair served coffee and tea in the church, with cakes provided by various generous donors, while Rupert laid on hot bacon baps under a gazebo in the churchyard and Ann Lansdell ran a raffle and bring-and-buy under another one. The event raised a useful £180, after expenses, for church funds and we thank all those who donated items for the refreshments and the raffle and to those who helped and supported us on the day.
On the same day, Susannah Hall rode for us in the annual ‘Ride and Stride’ event in aid of the Shropshire Historic Churches Trust. She visited 20 churches again this year and her sponsorship raised £367.00 which, as usual, will be divided equally between the Trust and our fabric fund. Well done, Susannah and very many thanks.
As mentioned in the September magazine, our Harvest Festival evensong this year will be on Sunday 14th October, starting at 6.30pm. The collection will, as usual, go to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution and the service will be followed by refreshments at Church House, to which everyone will be very welcome. Please see the back cover for details of our other services in October.
