News from St Andrew’s Ashford Bowdler – May

On 30th March we held our annual parish meetings in the church, with Rev. Richard Mutter in the chair and 6 members of our electoral roll present, considerably fewer than the 15 who attended last year.
After nobly stepping into the breach last year, Margaret Small had decided not to seek re-election as churchwarden. She had first served as churchwarden in 1972, which the chairman remarked was the year before he was born! He congratulated her on her long record of service and proposed a vote of thanks to her, which was agreed unanimously. Ann Lansdell had offered to serve as churchwarden again after a gap of a few years and her appointment was unanimously approved by those present. It is now several years since we had two churchwardens, but we manage to keep going with help from others when needed.
Michael Chesshire and Jeremy Lansdell were re-elected as our two Deanery Synod representatives for a further three years and therefore continue as ex officio members of the PCC, as does Ann as churchwarden. The other continuing lay members are Jean Allen, Michelle Hodnett, Margaret Small, Michael Shallow and Kirstie Turner. At the first meeting of the new PCC following the annual meetings, Jeremy Lansdell was re-appointed as Vice-Chairman and Treasurer and Ann Lansdell was re-appointed as Secretary.

On Saturday, 8th April, Ann and Jeremy hosted a village coffee morning at Church House in aid of church funds, which raised the useful sum of £200. Very many thanks to all those who donated items for the bring-and-buy or for the refreshments and to those who supported us on the day. We were blessed with a beautifully warm and sunny day and it was a good opportunity for recent newcomers to the village to meet their new neighbours. When two of them discovered that they had been at the same school in Zimbabwe, it proved yet again what a small world we live in!
