Caynham Ashford WI October2016

Chris King welcomed everyone and dealt with the business of the evening. She certainly deserves full marks for attending the meeting after only returning from America that very afternoon. We were all very thrilled by the handwritten letter and Thank You card received from Buckingham Palace for the hand painted card Caynham Ashford WI had sent for the Queen’s 90th Birthday. The letter complimented Anne Blake on her artwork. We have several social gatherings to look forward to including a Kurling Evening……with of course, fish and chips. Caynham Ashford now have their own Kurling sets. Should anyone be interested in hiring them please contact any of the committee. It is a guaranteed fun evening and EVERYBODY can participate. For the last of the evening walks the group went on a Murder Mystery Walk around Ludlow. Fortunately the weather was dry and all the walkers had an enjoyable sleuthing evening ending up at The Queens for a meal. Ann Tyler held a Macmillan Coffee Morning at her house and £396 was raised. This was a great achievement as it was a last minute decision by Ann and she was concerned that not many people would turn up, she need not have worried. Our speaker for the evening was Katy Alston who was giving us a talk on The World of Zines. The majority of us didn’t know what to expect. All the tables were set out per Katy’s instructions and she very patiently went through the procedure step by step. After a lot folding, cutting and sticking, and much hilarity, we all ended up with something resembling a small book….or zine. Katy brought with her a selection of her work which was amazing. The competition was ‘A hand-crafted paper item’ and was won by Janice Forsyth with an amazing arrangement of paper flowers. It was a most enjoyable and interesting evening and the vote of thanks was given by Janice. The next meeting will be in Ashford Village Hall on 9th November and will be our Annual meeting and Members Night. SMW
