Caynham Ashford WI February 2017

Chris welcomed us all to the February meeting and was delighted to see such a good turn out.
During the business of the evening our social secretaries have obviously been busy arranging outings for the forthcoming year. Sue gave details of our Spring Outing which is a trip to ‘World of Wedgwood’ in Stoke on Trent which gives us the chance to visit the factory, museum and also the opportunity, should we want it, to decorate a plate, throw a pot and enjoy afternoon tea. I’m sure it will be a really enjoyable day. Later in the year accommodation has been booked for an Activity Break at Manor House Hotel in Devon where there is such a huge choice of activities there will be something to suit everyone. Our speaker for the evening was Jen Brewer telling us about and demonstrating the skills of Copper Foiling and Stained Glass. Jen is a local girl and although she studied and worked away she has happily returned to her roots and now lives just outside Ludlow. Jen showed us the whole procedure of copper foiling and produced a beautiful glass panel, making it look very easy. She runs courses at Westhope College and amongst other commissions designed and made the stained glass window in Little Hereford church. Her enthusiasm and love for her art is infectious. We were extremely fortunate with the weather for the January ramble. It was only a short walk from The Linney through Plymouth Estates to Bromfield where we had lunch at the Food Centre. It was most enjoyable and although the plan was to walk back some of us cheated and returned by car. Our next meeting is at Caynham on 8th March and the speaker is Barry Fewster who will tell us all about hedgehogs. The competition is Something Prickly. We are always looking for new members and should you come along you would be guaranteed a warm welcome. SMW
