Caynham Ashford WI April 2017

Chris welcomed us all to our April meeting.
Our next trip is at the end of the month to the World of Wedgwood in Barlston, Stoke on Trent. It will be a full and interesting day including a guided tour of the factory, visit to the museum, the ‘compulsory’ tea and cakes and the opportunity to either paint a plate or throw a pot. You never know we might even discover skills we never knew we had although I think it would take a few more visits to complete a dinner service! Our speaker for the evening was James Cooper enlightening us on the work of the South Shropshire Furniture Scheme. James is now the Operations Manager but started there eight years ago volunteering in the office. Because locally, it is referred to as the Furniture Scheme that is what the majority of people associate it with, just distributing donated furniture. It is SO much more. It is their mission to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged people in South Shropshire. It really was a most interesting presentation by James, he is so enthusiastic about the scheme and about the numerous facilities they provide. I’m sure with local support it will grow and prosper giving benefit to those who find themselves in need of help for all sorts of reasons. The vote of thanks was given by Betty Meredith. ‘Praise Bee’ is a charity set up in conjunction with the Church of England’ and other denominations with the express purpose of multiplying the numbers of mason bees across the UK. They are working with the WI by providing mason bee nests to be installed on our churches. Our member Janice Forsyth collected two boxes, one for Caynham and the other for Ashford, and told us how they worked and the importance of mason bees. Our next meeting will be in Caynham on 10th May and the speaker will be Marion Stainton who will tell us about Murder, Magic and Plant Potions and the competition is A Murder Weapon….who says the WI is boring!!!!!! Please come and join us.
